Is a road trip on the North Island made for you?
Traveling to New Zealand was for me a long-time dream. I wanted to go there maybe even more than to Australia. And I didn’t get disappointed. If you’re also someone who loves being in Nature, exploring off-the-path, feeling on another planet… Then, start your New Zealand itinerary on the north island without a doubt. The north island has got some city life, but above all impressive, unforgettable landscapes. It’s very untouched, almost surrealistic. This road trip might also be the occasion to start out with Nature photography – landscapes are too photogenic to not be captured.
What you don’t want to miss on a New Zealand north island itinerary?
In 14 days, you’ll see the most unmissable spots. Make a loop from and back to Auckland, passing by volcanos, alpine lakes, ice-colored waterfalls, undeveloped beaches. Tongariro crossing is by far my favorite stopover: you’ll get to climb the Maori sacred volcano which was used as scenery in the Lord of the Rings. One of the most unknown facts about traveling New Zealand: there are many things to do for free.
Why get a tested itinerary before going on a road trip?
To plan a road trip isn’t the easiest and quickest thing to do. Sometimes, I spend (too much) time looking for the best spots, driving times, and other travel tips to some destinations. The best way is to travel freestyle, but a guide will save you a lot of headaches. This New Zealand north island itinerary is based on my own road trip. It’s a mix of best places to see and other less-known but very beautiful off-the-path landmarks.
